Why Your Website Isn't Bringing You Customers

Traffic without enquiries is one of the most common and most frustrating website problems in Kenya. Here is why it happens and what it actually takes to fix.

Why Your Website Isn't Bringing You Customers

This is one of the most common complaints we hear from business owners in Kenya, and it is also one of the most misunderstood. "My website isn't bringing me any customers" is usually treated as one problem, when it is actually several different problems that happen to produce the same symptom. Fixing it starts with figuring out which one you actually have.

First, Check Whether Anyone Is Actually Visiting

Before anything else, confirm you have a traffic problem or a conversion problem, because the fix is completely different depending on which one it is. If almost nobody is finding your site in the first place, the issue is visibility: search rankings, social media presence, or word of mouth simply are not driving people there. If people are visiting but not contacting you, the site itself is the problem. Most business owners assume it is the second when it is sometimes the first, and no amount of redesigning a page nobody sees will fix a visibility problem.

Your Call to Action Is Unclear or Missing

If a visitor has to think about what to do next, most of them will simply leave instead of figuring it out. A clear, repeated call to action, call us, book a demo, request a quote, needs to be obvious on every page, not buried at the bottom or assumed to be understood from context. Businesses that describe what they do beautifully but never explicitly ask the visitor to do anything are leaving conversions on the table for a very fixable reason.

It Is Not Obvious What You Actually Offer

A visitor should be able to tell what your business does and who it is for within about five seconds of landing on your homepage. If your messaging is vague, overly clever, or written for people who already know your business rather than for someone encountering it for the first time, you are losing people before they ever reach the parts of the site that would have converted them.

There Is No Trust Signal Anywhere on the Page

Kenyan consumers are increasingly cautious about who they hand money or personal information to online, and reasonably so. A site with no reviews, no visible portfolio of past work, no clear physical location or contact details, and no sense of who is actually behind the business gives a hesitant visitor every reason to leave and look for a competitor who seems more established.

Your Forms Are Harder to Complete Than They Should Be

Every additional field on a contact or booking form reduces the percentage of people who finish filling it out. If your form asks for more information than you actually need at this stage, or if it is difficult to use on a phone, you are adding friction at the exact moment a visitor has decided they are interested. This is one of the most fixable problems on this entire list, and one of the most commonly ignored.

The Page Takes Too Long to Load

Even a visitor who is genuinely interested will often abandon a page before it finishes loading if it takes more than a few seconds, especially on mobile data. This is a purely technical problem with a real business cost, and it is exactly what our audit warning signs article covers in more depth.

Nobody Follows Up on the Enquiries You Do Get

Sometimes the website is not the problem at all. If enquiries come in through a contact form but sit unanswered for days because nobody owns the process of following up, the website did its job and the business process afterward failed. This is worth ruling out honestly before spending money on the site itself.

Putting It Together

The fix depends entirely on which of these is actually happening, which is why guessing rarely works. A site with a traffic problem needs different work than a site with a trust problem, and a site with a trust problem needs different work than one with a slow-loading, hard-to-use contact form. Our piece on what a professional website actually does for your business covers the foundation this all sits on, and our website audit service is built specifically to diagnose which of these is your real bottleneck rather than guessing and hoping.

If you are getting traffic but not results, tell us what your numbers actually look like and we will help you figure out where the gap is.
